The Milotté Scarf is knitted back and forth in stockinette stitch, using a simple chart that creates a delicate eyelet pattern. The eyelets are worked on the right side, with purl stitches on the return rows. Make sure to check out the “Tips for a Neat Edge” before you begin.

The design is flexible and easy to customize – you can add extra pattern repeats or experiment with different yarn types to create exactly the look you’re going for.

My personal favorite is knitted with three strands of thin mohair. It gives the scarf an airy, luxurious feel – and curls less at the edges than alpaca versions. Two balls of yarn are usually enough – just use both the inner and outer strand from one ball to get three working strands from two balls.

Needles: double-pointed needles or circular needle, 3.5 mm

Color codes for the scarfs pictured:

Blue: 3 strands Tilia from Filcolana (340) 50g.
